Four ways to play

  • ⚡ Quick game — pick a time control (1, 3+2, 5 or 10 minutes), an opponent is found automatically, colours are random. The result counts towards your Elo.
  • 👥 With a friend — create a room and send the 4-character code or link. Any city, any country.
  • 🤖 Versus computer — Easy, Medium, Hard, Master; as White or Black; moves can be taken back.
  • 👫 On one device — two people on one phone or computer, taking turns.

Running out of time loses (a draw if the opponent has no mating material). If the opponent stays disconnected for 45 seconds, you win. More about fast chess.

How to start

  1. Press “Play”: the page opens and asks for a name. No password, e-mail or download.
  2. Choose a mode: ⚡ quick game (online opponent), 👥 with a friend (room code), 🤖 computer, 👫 one device.
  3. Tap a piece: green dots show the legal moves; tap the target square or drag the piece.

Rating and rules

Everyone starts at 1200 Elo; in the first 20 games the rating moves fast (K = 40), then slower (K = 20). The leaderboard shows the top 30 with games played and W/L/D. How the rating is calculated.

Castling, en passant, promotion, the 50-move rule and threefold repetition all work: only legal moves are allowed. Chess rules.
