Dot Link for kids

The first packs of Dot Link are a gentle puzzle for children from about five years old: big colored dots, a finger to drag with, and a board that lights up when it is full. No reading, no clock, nothing to lose.

An easy 4×4 Dot Link board with three colors

What a child learns

  • Color matching: red goes to red, blue to blue.
  • Planning: if the red line goes here, where does blue go? The “fill every cell” rule gently forces thinking a step ahead.
  • Fine motor control: dragging along a grid cell by cell.
  • Trying again: undo and restart are free, and a mistake just means redrawing a line.

Which levels to start with

AgeBoardLevelsNotes
5–64×41–103–4 colors, a few seconds each; a parent may explain the fill rule once
7–85×5 and 6×611–604–7 colors, the first real detours
9+7×7 and up61+like the adult game; see the tips page

Because the first level of each pack is always open, a child can try a bigger board any time and go back if it is too hard.

Phone and tablet

Dot Link runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install and no store account. On a tablet the board fills the screen and the dots are large. Sound effects can be muted with the speaker button. Progress is saved on the device.

Parents: the game shows standard web ads from Google on the page, like the rest of the site. There are no in-game purchases and no chat.

A simple way to explain the rules

“Every dot has a twin of the same color. Draw a road from one to the other. Roads can’t cross. When every square has a road on it, you win.” After one 4×4 board most children do not need the explanation again.

FAQ

Is Dot Link suitable for a 5-year-old?

The 4×4 pack is: three or four colors, no reading, no timer. A parent explaining the fill rule once is usually enough.

Is there a time limit or lives?

No. A board can take as long as it needs, and redrawing a line costs nothing.

Does it require an account?

No. Open the page and play; progress is saved in the browser of that device.

Can two children compare?

Yes. Level numbers give identical boards to everyone, so two players can race on the same level or on the daily puzzle.
