How a run plays out
- You appear on a small round plot. Your head waits until your first command.
- Once you leave your land you leave a trail. It is not yours yet, and it is your weakest point.
- Return and the trail plus the whole area it encloses become yours, other players’ land included.
- If someone crosses your trail you are out and your land becomes free. Restarting takes one tap.
The numbers
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Map | a round arena: about 19 seconds from edge to edge |
| Starting land | a small circle, 0.2% of the map |
| Steering | free 360°: the head turns smoothly after your finger or mouse |
| Speed | 8 trail widths per second, the same for everyone |
| In a room | up to 24 players; if few people are on, bots fill up to 9 |
| Winning | whoever holds half the arena wins |
| First 20 seconds | bots do not hunt you and cannot cut your trail, and there are no head-ons |
| Items, coins, power-ups | none: everyone plays on equal terms |
| Restart | instant and free, one tap |
People and bots
When you press the button the server puts you in the busiest room with space. If few people are on, bots keep the map alive, but they never pose as people: a BOT tag is always shown above the head and in the top list. Bots leave as people join. They have different temperaments: some are careful, some greedy, some hunt for trails. They only see what is near them, so they can be outplayed.
Accurate even with lag
Even with the server in Singapore (about 200 ms from Tashkent) turns feel instant: your head is predicted in the browser and the server checks the result. Only the server decides captures and knock-outs, so it is fair and cannot be cheated. Traffic is tiny, 1–3 KB per second, so mobile data is plenty.
Controls
- Phone: put your finger down anywhere and drag: the head turns smoothly the way your finger goes, a free 360°. Lift your finger and it keeps going that way. Works in portrait and landscape.
- Desktop: mouse: the head goes towards the pointer. Arrow keys and WASD work too.
Leaderboards
Daily and all-time boards: the largest territory held in one run and the number of opponents knocked out. The server keeps the score and bots never appear on the boards. Full rules.
FAQ
Do I need to sign up or download anything?
No. A name is filled in for you and you can change it. Everything runs in the browser.
Is this Paper.io?
No. Hudud is an independent game in the same genre, with no connection to Paper.io. If you know the genre you will feel at home, though the rules differ (for example, bots leave you alone for the first 20 seconds and half the arena means victory).
What if my connection drops for a moment?
Return within 20 seconds and your player carries on. Meanwhile your head heads home on its own. The same happens when you switch away from the page.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free. There is no in-game currency, no items and no payments: everyone plays on equal terms.
