This game rewards method rather than luck. These habits take you from random guesses to solving in three or four tries.

1. Open with common letters

The most common letters in the hidden words are E 47.2%, A 39.7%, R 36.8%, O 29.6%, T 28.8%, L 27.6%. Open with a word built from them, such as AROSE or LATER.

2. Use new letters on the second try

If the first word gave little, do not rush to fix it. Enter a word with entirely different letters: after two words you have tested ten letters, and the third guess is far better informed.

3. Move yellow letters to new spots

A yellow letter tells you two things: it is in the word, and it is not in that spot. Put it elsewhere in the next word. Once three or four spots are ruled out, the right one is obvious.

4. Remember repeated letters

31.1% of the words repeat a letter. If you seem to have all the letters but no word fits, try a repeat. A gray tile sometimes means a letter is repeated too often rather than missing.

5. Think about beginnings and endings

Many words start with S 16.1%, C 8.7%, B 7.4%, A 6.6% and end with E 18.5%, Y 14.2%, T 10.7%, R 8.8%. Knowing the last letter narrows the word down quickly.

6. Hard mode

When the normal game feels easy, turn on hard mode. Every revealed hint must be used, so tip 2 no longer works and words have to be chosen more carefully.

FAQ

What is a good average?

Four tries is good and three is very good. Your own distribution is in the statistics panel.

Does a rejected word cost a try?

No, so feel free to test ideas.

Can I play together with someone?

Of course, the daily word is shared. Just do not reveal it to friends who have not played yet.
