So‘zdon board with coloured tiles

The goal and the colours

Every guess must be a real word of five tiles. After you enter it, the tiles flip one by one and take a colour:

ColourMeaning
Greenthe letter is in the word and in the right spot
Yellowthe letter is in the word but in another spot
Graythe letter is not in the word (or is repeated too many times)

The keyboard takes the colours too, so you can see at a glance which letters are still untried.

Repeated letters

Say the hidden word is ALLEY and you enter LLAMA:

LLAMA

The second L is green, the first L is yellow because ALLEY has a second L elsewhere, the first A is yellow, and the last A is gray because ALLEY has only one A. Letters in the right spot are counted first, then the rest from left to right, up to the number in the answer.

Words that are not in the list

Random letters are not accepted: the row shakes, a short message appears and the try is not used. Ordinary inflected forms are accepted as guesses, such as WORDS or TRIED. The hidden word itself is always chosen from common words.

Hard mode and colours

In settings you can turn on hard mode: revealed hints must be used in later guesses, so a green letter stays in place and a yellow one stays in the word. It is chosen before the game starts and shown with an asterisk in shared results. A colour-blind palette replaces green and yellow with orange and blue.

Statistics

Each language keeps its own record: games played, win percentage, current and best streak, and the guess distribution. It is stored in your browser, so no account is needed.
