Front: a team shooter in your browser

The Olive Corps and the Steel Corps, two fictional armies, clash in a ruined riverside village. You lead a soldier from an over-the-shoulder view: take cover behind walls, sandbags and crates, pick the rifle or the SMG, and throw a grenade when it counts.

How a battle goes

  1. Tap Quick play and you are in the fight within seconds: 12 soldiers per room, 6 on each side. If few people are online, bots take the remaining places.
  2. A battle lasts six minutes. Every enemy soldier you take down scores a point for your side.
  3. A downed soldier returns at base after 4 seconds with 2.5 seconds of protection.
  4. When time runs out you see the results, and 12 seconds later a new battle starts in the same room.

The map: a riverside village

The map has three lanes: a riverside path and a watermill to the west, a street through ruined houses and a square with a well in the middle, and a hay field with a large barn to the east. The north and south halves mirror each other, so neither side has an advantage.

People and bots

Bots are never disguised: the BOT tag always shows next to the name, on the scoreboard and in the results. They cannot see through walls, they need time to aim, and they play fairly for a casual player. When a person joins the room, a bot gives up its place.

Even on a slow connection

Your soldier's movement is computed right in the browser while the server checks it as the referee. When you fire, the server rewinds to what you saw on screen, so a well-aimed shot lands even at 250 ms of lag. The game uses about 4 to 6 KB of traffic per second.

FAQ

Is this Warfare 1942?

No. Front is our own game in that genre, with its own map, soldiers and rules. The armies are fictional, with no real countries or insignia.

Do I need to sign up or download anything?

No. The game opens in the browser and picks a name for you, which you can change.

Is it free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy, no in-game currency and no random rewards. Both weapons are open to everyone from the first battle.

Is there blood?

No. A downed soldier falls and fades away; a hit only kicks up dust.
